California initiative would end divorce

Some people “defend marriage” by preventing gays and lesbians from tying the knot. But John Marcotte has decided to “defend marriage” by promoting legislation that would prevent heterosexuals from divorcing.

His “2010 California Marriage Protection Act”, which has been filed with the Secretary of State’s Office in Sacramento, would prevent man from putting asunder what God has joined together. (Click here to see the actual language. Marcotte’s proposal is the fifth on the list.)

A concerned reader from Washington state sent me a link to an interview with Marcotte, in which the political activist declares: “Hell is eternal, just like your marriage was supposed to be…” The reader wrote:

John Marcotte is an unfortunate example of the reason [a lot of people] are all afraid of Christians these days. Have you interviewed him yet, or is he really just a small-time crank not worth noting?

No, I haven’t interviewed John Marcotte yet. And yes, Dear Reader, he’s really just a small-time crank, but he’s a small-time crank with a wicked sense of humor and a clever Web site: www.rescuemarriage.org. He’s an unfortunate example of the reason why a lot of people are afraid of all comedians and satirists these days, but I’m not certain of his religious affiliation.

So far, Marcotte has raised $64 for his campaign according to his Web site. And he’s generating a lot of buzz on the Internet today.
