The arrogance of these folks still amazes me after all these years; the article quoted one of them as saying that “you can be a Christian and agree to some Democratic principles as well.” Thanks for the vote of confidence! I know that all those committed Christians who marched in the civil rights movement, and helped change society in the ’60s, are happy to have the vote of confidence of members of the Christian establishment who, forty years ago, were the segregationists and bigots we all worried about. What a difference a generation makes!

The list of student organizations at Liberty University includes TWO conservative clubs, plus a chapter of the Concerned Women for America. But apparently there’s nothing Democratic about Falwell’s school.

Jose, there was never anythying Democratic, in the big or small D sense. The school was founded as an outgrowth of Jerry Falwell’s segregated religious school, and for many years Falwell refused to grant tenure to any professor, so that he could maintain control over what was taught. I doubt that the light of democracy penetrates very far into the darkness of Liberty University.
