How Al Gore Got His Groove Back…

I heard Al Gore speak at a luncheon today and the tickets cost (an inconvenient truth) $35. But it was money well-spent.

Folks, I first interviewed Al Gore in 1988. In Atlanta. During the Democratic National Convention. And I saw him give his acceptance speech at the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Gore has something now that he was sorely lacking eight years ago.

Fire. Passion. Powerful oratory.

When he talks about global warming, he speaks with a fervor, a boldness, a missionary zeal that was missing during his presidential campaigns. He’s a better speaker now. He’s more relaxed. Funny. Not stiff. He did a dead-on imitation of Bill Clinton and a passable imitation of Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he quoted scriptures left and right as he spoke about protecting God’s creation.

As he spoke, you couldn’t help but wonder: How different would our nation be if he had beaten Bush back in 2000?
