Maybe religion makes life ‘better, not bitter…’

Barack Obama drew fire for suggesting that globalization converts rural Americans into bitter, intolerant, gun-toting religious zealots. But a new Rasmussen Reports survey suggests Obama’s stereotype is off by about 180 degrees. Perhaps religion (to steal a line from Jesse Jackson) makes life “better, not bitter.”

Or perhaps hard times spur people to reject religion, not cling to it.

I personally would hate to think what would have happened to me in my life if I didn’t have faith to draw on. There have been some trying times in my life and mostly I just handed it to God. So far, so good. Life isn’t perfect but everyday I learn and watch and try and teach my kids. Everyday I understand more of what my elders tried to teach me while I was young. Every day I am amazed at how my mother and father raised 6 kids.

I never thought I would ever agree with Jesse Jackson, but if he said this, he is right, religion does make life more better, not bitter. Personally, I like the word Christianity rather than religion in making a better life, religion is a very broad word, Christianity is a little more to the point. I can this with all honesty, after spending half my life without Christ, and the other half with, I wouldn’t trade the best days of my old life, for the worst days I’ve ever had as a Christian. I have a peace in my heart, a joy, a love, that I never had when I was out drinkin’ and runnin’ around, I have made my fair share of mistakes, but accepting Jesus Christ in my heart wasn’t one of them, that is one incident in my life, that I’ve never regretted ever.
