The End Is Near, warns ‘Jesus of Siberia’

First we had global warming to worry about. Then bank collapses and sky-high unemployment. Now, get ready for locusts and boils and the moon turning to blood.

“Man is coming nearer and nearer to destruction,” warns Sergei Torop, also known as “Jesus of Siberia.”

seems that Matthew 24:23-24 prophecy is coming true. False messiah’s are popping up all over the place.http://www.falsemessiahs.com/jose_miranda.htm

Peach, there have been false messiahs for hundreds of years. The thing about these “prophecies” in the Bible is that everything they say was perfectly true at the time they were written, and have generally been true since. Everyone cites the “wars and rumors of war” thing; well, there were wars and rumors of wars throughout the history of the Roman Empire (including during the time of Christ; after all, the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD after the Jewish War), and throughout history from that point to this. It’s not prophecy if something is already happening.

    on Miranda:

Miranda’s group claims it has 100,000 members worldwide. This estimate includes 400 affiliated businesses that support the false messiah by turning over 20 to 80 percent of their profits to Creciendio en Gracia (Growing in Grace) church.

    on Jesus of Siberia

His promise of salvation has brought 4,000 followers to eke out a living in this far-flung region of Siberia, in one of the more extraordinary currents in a country known for its eccentric religious sects.

Caleb: this is not a small following. We as Christians need to wake up and smell the coffee and realize that more is going on that just a new fad, or cult. These false prophets are preying upon the homeless and those who think they are heading for a better life. As more and more of our country becomes unemployed and homeless the numbers of the new orders will rise.
bottom line: it would be better to be prepared and nothing come of anything, than to be unprepared and have your whole world collapse in on you. ~~~and this does not be to be in loss of all rationale.

Okay, Peach, what should we do?

  5. peach Says:

    all we can

  6. Caleb Powers Says:

But WHAT should we do? Should we ban these types of religion? Should we legislate against it in some way? I guess I don’t know what you are proposing.

  7. peach Says:

we can start by making sure we preach the truth, and that these are false messiah’s

  8. Caleb Powers Says:

I thought we were already doing that; I haven’t heard a single report about them that didn’t suggest that they were a bunch of nuts.

And, that’s the point. These are small bunches of nuts, and there have always been small bunches of nuts hanging around Christianity. You gave two examples. One, “Miranda,” claims to have 100,000 followers worldwide. According to Wikipedia, “as of 11 September 2009, the Earth’s population is estimated by the United States Census Bureau to be 6.783 billion.” That works out to about .000147% of the population. I think we can stand that level of nuttiness.

Likewise, the Jesus of Siberia claims to have 4,000 followers. Russia has a total population of about 142 million. That works out to about .000281% of the population. Again, I suspect that Russia, which is full of religious nuts anyway, can stand that level of nuttiness as well.

My normal view of the world is that the sky is rarely falling, and I imagine it’s not falling now, either. These cults will dry up and blow away, just as other cults have for the past two thousand years.
